5/23/2012 Freewheelin'

Lots of new music, quite by accident I must say, on the first hour of the show this week. That includes tunes by Nikki & The Ruemates, Living Things, Ross Kleiner & The Thrill, J D McPherson, Marcia Ball, R J Mischo, Jack White, and Anders Osborne.

Anders Osborne called in for a chat prior to his show tonight at The Varsity Theatre.  Last time I interviewed him, probably about ten years ago, he came in and performed live in-studio with Big Chief Monk Beaudreaux. They were touring behind their new album "Bury The Hatchet".  Monk was in full headdress and had to bend his head sideways to get into the studio.  Anyway, we went to see Anders tonight and walked away amazed.  A phenomenal guitar player and singer, he and his band had the joint rockin'.

Mary Cutrufello has recently released a new CD "Fireflies Till They're Gone" and we're proud to be presenting her upcoming CD Release Party on Friday, June 1 as our latest installment of Freewheelin' 1st Fridays at the 331 Club. We'll be heading down to the 3-day Memory Lanes Block Party this weekend.  Freewheelin' listeners will especially interested in the Sunday lineup of (in reverse order of appearance: Los Straitjackets, The Hypstrz, L'Assassins, The Goondas, Steve Kaul & The Brass Kings, Malamanya, and Crankshaft's Primitive R&B Revue. 

Speaking of Nikki & The Ruemates, and I do believe we were earlier, we're bringing their CD Release Party to the 331 Club on Friday, July6.  Part of Freewheelin' blah, blah, blah series. More later.
