Our guest today is Joanne Shenandoah, Oneida, Wolf Clan. She is one of Americas most celebrated and critically acclaimed musicians; Grammy® Award winner, and 13 time Native American music award winner with 15 recordings to date. She has captured the hearts and souls of audiences all over the world, from North and South America, South Africa, Europe to Australia and has been praised for her work of Peace and hope. Shenandoah has performed at prestigious events such as Woodstock 94, The Parliament of the Worlds Religions, The White House, Carnegie Hall, 3 Presidential Inaugurations, Madison Square Garden.
She is the daughter of the late Maisie Shenandoah, Wolf Clanmother of the Oneida Nation, and the late Clifford Shenandoah, an Onondaga Nation chief. She is the direct descendent of John Skenando (Skenandoa, Shenandoah) after whom the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia is named. A compatriot of George Washington, Shenandoah played a key role in rallying some Iroquois to support the rebels during the American Revolution. John Shenandoah was the co-founder of the Hamilton-Oneida Academy which later became Hamilton College.
