8/3/2011 Echo Chamber

As usual, something for everybody in the Echo Chamber. We started off with a cool new dub from Ital Roots Players, and followed this with new music from The Angel, I.vette, Process Rebel, Juakali, Copia Doble Systema, Mahom, and Easy Star All Stars. As part of our summer mix series we included an excellent mix from Saetchmo called Short Trip Into Space and Back which pulled in Love Grocer, Tsunami Wazahari, Blu, Primal Scream (as remixed by Adrian Sherwood), Horace Andy, and more.

When Swiss took over in the 4:00 hour, listeners found out why It's Fun To Listen To Wyyyyyyyyy-Emmmmmmmm-Cee-Kay!!! (and YMCK doesn't even cover the Village People! They DO cover Frankie Valli, and in French, to boot... but that's another story for a different show. Here we heard their cheesy-cute 8-bit video arcade chiptune/dancehall ("chiphall?") riddim "Collect The Wind - Happy End", kicking off a set that reintroduces the world to Grace Jones via her new Hurricane/Hurricane Dub dubble CD. Also in the set, new artist (to us) Diva makes the scene with music that sounds all sci-fi soundtrack, pre-"Star Wars". Rico, Tsuyoshi Kawakami and Dub Syndicate turn up in the final inning to put the game away.
