6/7/2011 Bonjour Minnesota

Tonight's program commemorates D Day, the invasion of Europe on the beaches of Normandy, France by the Allies which would lead to the eventual defeat of the Nazis and the Axis during WWII. We give thanks to the brave men who fought there and saved the Allies from Nazi domination.

Georgette, the founder of Bonjour Minnesota, interviews Bill Adams, a guy from Brainerd, who was drafted into the army at age 18. Bill was not there for D Day, but came to France 2-3 weeks later as a backup for the Battle of the Bulge. Bill recounts incidents both terrifying and funny during this 1995 interview. Bill's widow, Marie-Rose, is also in the studio tonight and tells details of his experiences that were left out. Marie-Rose is French, but she came to the University of Minnesota on a scholarship after the war and met Bill there, when he was studying under the G.I. Bill. They had 7 children and a long and happy marriage.
