Doc Rock sat in in-studio today and, once again, blew our collective minds. An amazing collection(s) of very early gospel, and primarily, sacred music from the late 1890's thru the early 1930's.

The material was taken from two collections: Lost Sounds: Blacks and the Birth of the Recording Industry 1891 - 1922; and Goodye Babylon. The first set is a recent Grammy winner which also has a hard cover book that can be gotten seperately. The second is a massive 6 CD set that ...amounts to the largest, and certainly the most diverse, compilation of American gospel music from the early days of the phonograph record, encompassing both the White and African-American strands of the form..
