Join Leigh Combs and Dixie Treichel on Fresh Fruit, Thursday, April 7 from 7pm-8pm to hear a special interview with Legendary Singer/Songwriter Janis Ian (whose birthday is April 7).
Happy Birthday Janis!
As a special pledge drive show we will have 2 tickets to her concert with Tom Paxton as a pledge gift.
Also on the show is Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. speaking about the White Privilege Conference.
Janis Ian's career has seen her as an accomplished singer-songwriter, columnist, activist and lecturer. She was fifteen when she wrote the controversial Society’s Child that tells the story of a white girl whose bigoted parents forbid her to continue seeing her black boyfriend. Her 1975 hit At Seventeen, an anthem of teenaged angst, would garner her five Grammy nominations and two Grammy awards.1993 she publicly came out as a lesbian with her album Breaking Silence. Besides socio-political themes many of her songs are filled with wit and humor. Her song Married in London is a free download on her website that pokes fun at the gay marriage laws. In 2008 she released her book Society’s Child: My Autobiography and a 2 CD set The Best of Janis Ian: The Autobiography Songs. There is also a DVD of her titled Janis Ian: Live at Grand Center.
Her 2011 tour Together At Last with Tom Paxton brings her to the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN. Grammy Hall Of Fame member and Grammy winner Janis Ian joins Grammy Lifetime Achievement award winner Tom Paxton for a performance at the Fitzgerald Theater on Friday, April 29th at 8:00 p.m. Joining Janis and Tom is guitarist Natalia Zukerman
Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. has provided diversity, privilege and oppression trainings, presentations, keynotes and workshops across the United States. Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr., currently serves as Director of Diversity at The Bush School in Seattle, WA. Prior to his current position, Dr. Moore was the Director on Intercultural Life at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
