Chicago based tenor saxophonist Fred Anderson is a founding member of the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians). He runs the Velvet Lounge, a jazz club that provides adventurous musicians space to express themselves. For a long time he was a hidden treasure, since he did not record much. More recently, small and highly specialized labels such as Eremite:http://www.eremite.com, Delmark:http://www.delmark.com, Atavistic:http://www.atavistic.com, Thrill Jockey:http://www.thrilljockey.com and Okka Disk:http://www.okkadisk.com released some albums where the master saxophonist is accompanied by some of the finest musicians in contemporary jazz.
