From Native America to throat singing of Tuva...From the pan pipes of Peru to the pan pipes of the South Pacific...From the classical world of the Arabs to the classical courts of China...Irish jigs, Scandinavian Polskas, Pow-wows, and South India Bharata Natam...Sacred, Secular, and Ritual...There are no boundaries as we explore the traditional musics of the world.

Host Dan Rein travelled to Iran in December 2001/January 2002. He returned with warm memories and wonderful photos.

Listen to featured guests, including a recent interview by Dan Rein with Bill Watkins, author, songster, storyteller, and upholder of the bardic tradition. They talk about Bill's new book, "Scotland is not for the Squeamish." Hear tales of the sea, Scotland, mysticism, history and education, all stirred up with wit and ancient Irish wisdom...Music by Silly Wizard, Sean O'Driscoll (singing a song of Bill's) and Bill himself...

Today we began with ancient wedding dance music from Azerbaijan (Pan), followed by Finnish Kantele music by Eino Tulikari (Finnish label), then we listened to Gadet Hobak Leili by the Arabic worlds, great singer Oum Kalthoum (Dejavu), then music from the latetes recording of Mozaik (Compass), with Andy Irvine, Donal Lunny, Bruce Molsky, Nikola Parov, and Rens van der Zalm, and the hour was finished of with music for daf from Northern Khorasan, Iran (Mahoor).

In second hour we heard Sufi music from the Sindhi Music
Ensemble of Pakistan (Wergo), Music by Vaclav Trojan for Czech animation (Supraphon), music for Japanese Shamisen by the Yoshida Brothers (Domo), Dhrupad music from North India by Uday Bhawalkar (live recording), Music from Brittany by Jacky Mollard (live recording), music by the Pines (Red House), and bagpipe music from the Spanish Asturias (Arc).

4/20/2008 Century Song

Today we heard music from the Nordic Roots Festival 2007 with the great Finnish string band, JPP. Thanks to recording engineer, Chris Dronen.

During the second hour we heard Dhrupad music from North India by Uday Bhawalkar (live recording). We also had live music and talk from local musician, Paul Metzger.

4/13/2008 Century Song

During the first hour we had in studio guests, Gao Hong, and Shubhendra Rao. We heard live recordings and studio recordings of their Chinese Pipa and sitar collaborations (INNOVA).

During the second hour we had Chinese musician, Chueng-Fung Wong, talking about the ancient zither, the Chin. We heard music from various Chinese recordings.
