  • This week on MinneCulture, an encore presentation of the The Minneapolis Music Scene 1975-1980, produced by Cyn Collins. The Twin Cities has had a vibrant music scene for decades, but in the early to mid-1970s there was almost no original music being performed. Only a few bands dared to be different, and thanks to their creative diligence, the Minneapolis punk/rock scene was born. This two-part documentary describes the Minneapolis music scene between 1975 – 1980, and features interviews and music by Curtiss A (Thumbs Up/the Spooks), Chris Osgood (the Suicide Commandos), Robert Wilkinson (the Flamin’ Oh), Chan Poling (the Suburbs), Kevin Cole (Rev 105), Peter Jesperson (Twin Tone/New West Records) and many more.

  • Dennis Spears is a well-known performer on the Minnesota music scene. In the fall, Dennis will be recognized for his achievements when he is inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. Dennis is famous for his smooth and soulful covers of some of Nat King Cole’s biggest hits. On July 26th and 27th, he’ll sing some of those songs and will be accompanied by The Wolverines at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.

  • Fans of Madeleine Peyroux, Norah Jones, brushed-snare drum jazz sounds of yesteryear and talented musicianship should tune in to “Pam Without Boundaries” Monday morning, July 15th, for an interview with Leftover Cuties. The four-piece from Los Angeles will be at the Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant on Wednesday and will celebrate a brand new CD out next week. Fans of the Showtime series starring Laura Linney, “The Big C,” already enjoy Leftover Cuties a lot as this group does the theme song to that show. You’ll also have a chance to see them at the Dakota when you listen to the music and interview with Leftover Cuties on KFAI Monday, starting at 10:30am.

  • Rapper and Musician, Aceyalone, is a founding member of rap group Freestyle Fellowship, that spawned the emergence and success of the West Coast underground rap scene in the early 90’s.His new album “Leanin’ on Slick” is a funk hip hop meld that showcases Aceyalone’s versatility as a musician. Aceyalone and the album’s producer, Bionik sat down with Radio Pocho’s Miguel Vargas and Terrell LaMarr to discuss their musical collaboration.
