Minneapolis-based alternative rock band Vaudeville has generously donated one pair of tickets for their upcoming Masquerade Party/CD Release Show at First Avenue on Saturday, May 17, 2014, as well as four signed copies of their new CD, Part 1: The Masquerade, to KFAI’s Spring Pledge Drive. All of this can be yours with a contribution of $35 to our drive, while also assisting KFAI in reaching its $91,000 goal. However, Friday is the last day of the drive, so take advantage of this opportunity while it’s still around!

Vaudeville combines rock, electronic, and experimental elements to create a driving, addictive, and unarguably distinct sound that has catapulted them into the spotlight in recent years. Current members Christopher Gummeson (vocals/keyboards), Chris Schara (lead guitar/vocals), A.J. Sugar (rhythm guitar), Timmy Kosel (bass/vocals), and John “Jimbo” Olson (drums), together create a unique sound that has earned them an ever-increasing name in the Midwest’s music industry.

The 10th annual “Sweet On School Dance” in support of public education will be held on Friday, February 28 from 4-6:30 PM at Hiawatha Community School, 4201 42 Av. S. in Minneapolis and will be broadcast live over community radio KFAI at 90.3 and 106.7 FM and on the web at kfai.org.

This event was created as an opportunity for the public to come together to celebrate the people who contribute to making our schools successful and strong. As always, children from across the metropolitan area and other special guests will be invited on air to use the mighty megaphone of community radio to tell the world their reasons for being “Sweet On School”.

This event will be co-hosted by Lolly Obeda of KFAI’s “Sugar Shop” and Miss Lily, now a mighty high school senior. Music will encompass the Sugar Shop’s usual format of blues, rhythm and blues and sweet soul with a focus on celebrating love, learning and unity. Snacks and treats will be available for sale by the Hiawatha PTO.

This event is free and open to the public. Generous support has been provided by Friends of Sweet On School. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult. Those who cannot attend in person can join us on the radio at 90.3 and 106.7 FM or at kfai.org.

Tune in to Versed Radio’s February 20th episode to hear an interview with Chicago rapper, Psalm One, about her new album, Hug Life, Rhymeschool – the youth mentoring program she runs in Chicago – hip hop, struggling with being different and challenging musical genres.

Join host Glen Leslie, and his co-host for the evening Steve Kyle, for 90 minutes of the best in Exotica to celebrate the middle of the coldest months we’ve seen in a long time around these parts. Steve brings in a pile of LPs from his personal collection as we do our best to keep the tiki torches burning bright, keeping us warm in the face of Old Man Winter and his damn sno-cone machine. You’ll hear from the famous Exotica practitioners as well as from the unknowns — with a handful of hacks thrown in for good measure. So bust out the rum for a night of summer, in the middle of winter – on Jet Set Planet, Friday Nights at 9 on KFAI.
