Wednesday afternoon, approximately 1,500 protesters convened in downtown Minneapolis for a march down Washington Avenue and across the Hennepin Avenue bridge. The march was organized by Black Lives Matter Minneapolis in response to the death of Freddie Gray who died while in police custody in Baltimore on April 12. Minneapolis Police blocked traffic for the demonstrators, but otherwise had little interaction with the group and made no arrests. KFAI's Ryan Dawes takes us on-location to the march.

This month, the Association of Independents in Radio, Inc. (AIR) selected KFAI as a finalist in a new national competition to extend tap roots into the local community and broaden the station’s service to a wider public. Hundreds of producers and radio and television stations across the U.S. responded to the call for proposals. Winners will be announced on January 20, 2012.

The Women’s Foundation of Minnesota released their annual Status of Women and Girls in Minnesota report at the University of Minnesota last Thursday. The report is aimed to bring awareness of the issues facing the state’s female population today, and to influence policymakers and the general public to do something about it.
