KFAI Community Radio presents a special anniversary concert at Minneapolis' Hook & Ladder to celebrate the Womenfolk Radio Show, one of the longest running women's music shows in the country. Taking place on Sunday, September 24, Womenfolk Radio's Anniversary Show will help kick off KFAI's Fall Membership Drive and will mark 15 years with host Ellen Stanley. Handicapped accessible and open to all ages, the event will celebrate the Twin Cities music community with food, door prizes and special performances by an eclectic lineup of artists that have been featured on the show, including Reina del CidPrairie Fire Lady ChoirVicky EmersonMary Bue and more. Suggested donation is $10 and all proceeds will benefit KFAI Community Radio, a volunteer-run listener supported station that broadcasts in over 13 languages.
 
Ellen Stanley began her radio journey while a student at Oberlin College, where she hosted a women's music program for four years. She has been hosting the long-running Womenfolk since Fall, 2002 when she took over the show from founding host Catherine Azora-Minda. As a touring musician, publicist and Executive Director of the Minnesota Music Coalition, Ellen brings an insider's perspective to the music with exclusive interviews, live guests and tasty bits of fun folk trivia. During her tenure hosting the show, she has interviewed folk legends to local favorites, including Joan BaezChastity Brown, The Wailin' Jennys, Indigo GirlsSweet Honey in the RockShawn ColvinSara Watkins and more. Womenfolk can now be heard every Tuesday from 4-6 pm on KFAI 90.3 FM Minneapolis/106.7 FM St. Paul and any time on demand at www.kfai.org/womenfolk. Recently highlighted by the Star Tribune as one of the best new listening rooms in the Twin Cities, The Hook & Ladder is a nonprofit music venue that presents a wide variety of performance art including; storytelling, spoken word, readings, visual arts, comedy, theatrical productions, singer-songwriters, full bands, and much more. It is fiercely independent, artist driven and largely artist staffed. The Hook & Ladder may well be the first/only solar-powered venue in the Twin Cities, with a full array of panels on its roof that power the performance space.
