This Thursday, Fernando Meza, Chair of the Percussion program at the University of Minnesota, comes to Encuentro to share with us in a journey around the world through an instrument that lives in many cultures: the marimba. This instrument has a rich history and tradition in many countries, in and beyond Latin America, and, in some, it has even been declared as the national instrument.
Fernando Meza has had a unique connection with the marimba throughout his life and was the organizer of the “Marimba 2010 International Festival and Conference”, the single most important gathering of marimba artists ever assembled. Please join us as we travel around the world in a journey of music, craftsmanship and cultural identity, through this wonderful instrument and the legacy it has created through the many cultures where it has flourished.
Encuentro airs every Thursday, 8:00-10:00 pm, here at KFAI —radio by, from and for the community.
