The Music of Liberation Theology at “Encuentro”
November 11, 2013
On two consecutive programs, Thursday, November 14, and Thursday, November 21, Encuentro will present “No basta rezar: La música de la Teología de la Liberación” (To pray is not enough: The music of Liberation Theology). These programs will feature Latin American folk music and songs that have formed a sort of “songbook" for the movement in the Catholic church that has come to be known as "Liberation Theology”, and will play examples from a number of Latin American masses that capture this movement, with a special emphasis on the “Misa Campesina Nicaragüense.” Tune in to listen to songs that embody basic tenets of liberation theology, among them the preferential option for the poor and the Christian mission to bring justice to the poor and oppressed through political activism.
Encuentro airs every Thursday, 8:00-10:00 pm, here at KFAI —radio by, from and for the community.
