Minneapolis Considers Municipal Utilities

The future of energy services for the City of Minneapolis has recently come into question. The city’s 20 year energy contracts with its two main providers, Xcel Energy for electricity, and CenterPoint Energy for natural gas, are due to expire at the end of next year.
Some activists and city leaders are talking about a takeover – having power and gas services overseen and distributed by the city of Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis city council will give the public a chance to weigh in on the issue. KFAI’s Hannah Rank has more.
