Sweet on School Celebrates Nine Years
March 22, 2013
Nine years ago, Lolly decided to combine her musical passion with a more city-wide passion; supporting the education of our children. Out of her dual passions came the idea for "The Sweet on School Dance." Once a year, Lolly and other volunteers from KFAI do a live broadcast of the Sugar Shop from a local school. "It seemed like a natural pairing for KFAI and the school to join hands," she explains. At the dance, kids get to learn how to do some of the older dances, be interviewed on the radio about what they like about school, and in general, have a good time. KFAI listeners still get their fix of great rhythm and blues on that day, while being reminded of the importance of supporting the school system. At the same time, a new generation is introduced to rhythm and blues.
