September 25, 2012
The Return of the Kings – The Lightning-Fast Roma (Gypsy) Brass Romania’s Fanfare Ciocărlia Comes Back to North America. For the first time, this legendary band is coming to the Twin Cities. The concert is Wednesday, September 26th at The Cedar Cultural Center.
Fanfare Ciocărlia were first introduced to North American audiences in 2001 and 2003. Now the band returns for an eight-city tour in the U.S. and Canada.
This twelve-piece brass band from northeastern Romania keeps the true spirit of Gypsy music alive! On the world stage, Fanfare Ciocărlia are renowned for their Gypsy 'speed-brass,' horns played at such a breakneck, thundering pace that one cannot help but be taken up in the headlong rush of the sound as well as amazed that the band manages to keep the horns in such precise discipline.
The Fanfare Ciocărlia’s repertoire is a musical fireworks display of traditional dances from Romania and rhythms from Turkey, Bulgaria, and Macedonia, yet with ever changing innovation inspired by everything from Bollywood to Eurovision.
The Brass Messengers, our local Twin Cities brass band will play at the show as well.
