Crap From The Past turns twenty years old!

January 25, 2012
Crap From The Past, the legendary pop music radio show on KFAI (90.3 FM Minneapolis, 106.7 FM St. Paul, airing on Friday nights from 10:30 to midnight), turns twenty years old this week. Program host Ron “Boogiemonster” Gerber will be celebrating with special on-air programs on Friday nights throughout February, a guest appearance on the Minneapolis live variety show Salon Saloon on Tuesday, February 28th (at the Bryant-Lake Bowl), and a book to be released in 2012.
“It’s a testament to the left end of the dial that I can continue to follow my musical whims without the pressures of ratings or commercial feasibility,” notes Gerber. “I’m thankful that after twenty years, the show still attracts its small but devoted audience.”
According to Jim McGuinn, Program Director at The Current, Minnesota Public Radio, “One of the best things about radio is the eccentric cast of loveable oddballs the medium attracts—and it takes one to know one. Among many to choose, Ron Gerber is a Rain-Man of musical minutia.”
Crap From The Past began in 1992 on a small college radio station in Rochester, New York. The show followed Gerber through graduate school in Tucson, and eventually to Minneapolis in 1997. The program has been on the KFAI airwaves since 1998, and has aired in its Friday night slot since 2002. The show has also been syndicated since 2002, airing on stations in New Zealand, Germany, England, and Singapore.
