State House District 61B Candidates
January 6, 2012
Story by Bob Hines
On Tuesday, January 10th, two candidates will go before the voters in South Minneapolis in a special election to serve in the State House of Representatives.
District 61B was formerly served by Jeff Hayden, who will join the State Senate later this month as an elected replacement for Senator Linda Berlin. Berglin left the legislature last summer after a long career. In the bid for the DFL nomination, attorney Susan Allen received the party endorsement and defeated one active candidate in the primary election.
Her opponent, Nathan Blumenshine, represents a newly formed political party called the Respect Party. There is no Republican appearing on the ballot for the seat in House District 61B.
Nathan Blumenshine joined KFAI's Bob Hines in the studio. Susan Allen participated by telephone as part of the KFAI Weekly News.
