On the phone, in the studio, it seemed like Dan Penn week at KFAI
August 16, 2011
Fans of the music of famed songwriter Dan Penn (and that's about everybody) had two big opportunities to sample his music on KFAI this week. The author of such songs as I'm Your Puppet, Dark End Of The Street, You Left The Water Running, Do Right Woman and countless more, was in town for a three-night stand at the Dakota Jazz Club. On Monday (Aug. 17) the overall-clad songwriter stopped in the KFAI studios to chew the fat with Pete Lee on Bop Street. The previous Friday (Aug. 12) Sugar Shop host Lolly Obeda and Treehouse Records owner Mark Trehaus spent the entire show recounting the work of Penn and playing many of the artists who have recorded his songs. He called in and talked to Lolly in a live interview as well.
If you missed those two shows, or just want to listen to them again, check 'em out in the KFAI archives: the Aug. 12 edition of Sugar Shop and the Aug. 15 edition of Bop Street. Just more of the unique programming you can expect to hear on Fresh Air Community Radio!
