Encuentro celebrates Mexico’s Independence Bicentennial

September 12, 2010
This Thursday, September 16, from 8:00-10:00 PM, Encuentro celebrates Mexico’s Independence Bicentennial. It was precisely on September 16, 1810, that Mexico’s war for independence from Spain began, signaling the end of a colonial period that lasted almost 300 years. In celebration, Encuentro will present a sampling of Mexican classic traditional songs and the country’s amazingly diverse folk genres.
