Delays in Unempolyment Benefits

January 17, 2008
An automated system that handles unemployment benefits was the source of a recent hearing in St. Paul. Thousands of people have not attained unemployment checks and compensation after being laid off for a period of up to several months. There have also been problems with the phone and computer systems, hindering people's ability to file unemployment claims. Several witnesses told legistlators that they are afraid of getting behind on their mortgage payments or damaging their credit scores.
News hosts Bob Hines and Benno Groeneveld interviewed DFL State Representatives Tim Mahoney of St. Paul and Tom Rukavina of Virginia,MN.
