Radio Rumpus Room: 12th Annual Day The Surf Stood Still Show
January 18, 2008
A Big Chill is seriously settling upon Minnesota this week, so the timing should be perfect for Radio Rumpus Room's 12th Annual Day The Surf Stood Still mid-winter surf show. The theme for this year's event is We Don't Care How They Do It In California. Translated, this means we will be playing only bands that come from lands that know what real snow looks like. This would include the Upper Midwest, the Mountain states, Canada, Northern Europe... Ah, you get the picture.
In keeping with the frigid theme, Radio Rumpus Room will again be hosting this show via remote broadcast from the middle of frozen Lake Calhoun. Regular listeners know they can expect to hear the hosts kvetching about the gusts of bitterly cold Canadian air as they spin surf tunes -- instrumentals and vocals both -- heated only by the thermal radiation of an overdriven Fender Reverb cabinet.
Radio Rumpus Room's 12th Annual Day The Surf Stood Still show airs Friday, January 18, from 9-10:30 p.m. Earmuffs will interfere with the quality of the noise, but don't forget to wear your mittens!
