Local Unions Support St. Paul Ward 5 Candidates

November 2, 2007
St. Paul's 5th Ward covers the northern edge of the city from Como Park to Edgerton Avenue. In this neighborhood, first-term city councilman Lee Helgen is facing financial planner David Haas. The two democratic candidates have split union support in the city. The International Association of Firefighters Local 21 backs Helgen and Haas has been endorsed by the St. Paul Police Federation. At a recent debate, the candidates butted heads over issues ranging from taxes to the smoking ban and even pit bulls.
