Independent filmmaker Gabriela Long was born in Costa Rica and raised in Duluth. After attending The Perpich Center for the Arts in the Twin Cities, Bradford College in Massachusetts and the University of Iowa, Long established Taviette Film Productions in 1999. Taviette focuses on autobiographical and biographical short documentary films, with a commitment to documenting stories of those who leave a legacy of their own making. Long is also a photographer and director of music videos and art films. She is currently premiering her film Perspectives on Steppin’ which explores the dress, attitude and personal outlooks on steppin’, a form of dance rooted in African-American culture.
Radio mnartists is a partnership between mnartists.org, a project of the McKnight Foundation and the Walker Art Center, and KFAI Radio Without Boundaries.
