Originally from Virginia, Brice Woodall arrived in Chicago in 2005 and immediately began putting his own take on indie folktronica all over the map. It’s difficult to fit his work into a genre box; his songs are simultaneously digital and lushly organic, accessible and mysterious, playful and dark. He’s been called the Thom Yorke of the south and the Andrew Bird of outer space.

This Monday, Sept. 19 join Rockin’ In Rhythm:rockininrhythm and Bop Street:bopstreet as their hosts spin vinyl records and only vinyl records to mark KFAI’s 33-1/3rd year of broadcasting. Kicking it off, Rockin’ In Rhythm host David Cummings will be playing vinyl for his entire program, from 2-4 p.m. Then stay tuned as Mr.

Live From Studio 5!:livefromstudio5 is proud to bring to the airwaves Steve Kaul & The Brass Kings. This band and its individual members has been a local favorite for years and now you get to hear ‘em LIVE From Studio 5! The Brass Kings have been wowing festival audiences, theaters and clubs since 2005.

She has one of the leading songs in her hometown of Austin, Texas—an excellent accomplishment for acro-gymnast-turned-organic chemist-turned songwriter Carrie Elkin. You’ll hear the song Jesse Likes Birds and more on Pam Without Boundaries:http://www.kfai.org/pamwithoutboundaries Monday morning at 11 a.m., when Elkin calls in to talk about her fun gig Friday night at Landmark Center.

The Juggernauts, a long-running (40+ yrs) jug band from the home of the jug bands — Louisville, Kentucky — will perform live-in-the-studio on House Party:houseparty this Wednesday in the 5 o’clock hour. Afterwards the band will head over to the 331 Club in NE Minneapolis to play the House Party Presents series from 7-9 pm.

This Friday (Sept. 9) at midnight, Simon Husbands will steer the True Brit! ship into foggy waters as he explores the 12 albums nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize — from Adele to PJ Harvey, and Metronomy to Anna Calvi. Join Simon as he plays music so hot that you can see the steam from here. True Brit! Every Friday at midnight.

The first hour of the Sept. 6 show, Corazon Latino:corazonlatino (Tuesdays noon-2 p.m.) will celebrate the 100th birthday of the great Cuban musician and composer, Arsenio Rodriguez, El Ciego Maravilloso….lots of Cuban son and soul!

On Friday night, Sept. 2, True Brit:node/28990 host Simon Husbands welcomes a special guest, Mr. Steve Shannon, founding member of the Twin Cities surf-punk band The 99ers.:http://facebook.com/the99ers Steve (a Brit from Liverpool!) will be sharing his talent and tastes with us as we delve into the nooks and crannies of his record collection. Later he may grace us with some live music.

Less than a year after becoming a KFAI volunteer, and only a few months after board certification, I was called by the Program Director and asked if I could substitute on the Wednesday overnight slot for awhile. So, back in August of 1996, my pal Terry (aka TurntableTerrorist) and I aired the first dubwise program we called The Echo Chamber.

Monday, August 29 Rockin’ in Rhythm:rockininrhythm host David Cummings and Pete Lee, host of Bop Street:bopstreet will be devoting both their shows to the music of Leiber & Stoller.

Jerry Leiber, half of one of the greatest American songwriting teams, recently passed away.
