Tonight’s program honors American Independence Day and the important role played by the French Marquis de Lafayette, who loved the ideals of the young nation so much that he came to the US, lead American troups against the British, was wounded andgenerously gave of his fortune to clothe and arm the Continental troops. He persuaded the French king to send money, troops and gunboats to the American patriots. Tonight’s music is a mixture of old and new French songs.

Host Britt Aamodt explores the music of ’80s pop-rock trio The Police BEFORE they were The Police. A fan of the Police since 1983, Britt digs deep in her vinyl collection for early releases by guitarist Andy Summers with Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band, drummer Stewart Copeland performing as his alter ego Klark Kent, and bassist and vocalist Sting with the Newcastle trad jazz band Last Exit.
