Not My Mother’s Jazz
Host Mike Stapp plays up-tempo, high-energy modern jazz, which his mom probably wouldn’t enjoy. But, it’s Mother’s Day so, in her honor, he’ll play a few jazz pieces more her style.
Today we began with music from the Palawan Highlands of the Philippines (le Chante du Monde), Irish accordion master Joe Cooley (Gael Linn), music from Celtic Spain from Milladoiro (Green Linnet), Music from Malaysia (World Music Network, Accordion music from Czech composer, Leos Janacek (Winter and Winter), Hurdy Gurdy music from the Hungarian Hurdy Gurdy Ensemble (Fono), Welsh music from Julie Murphy and Dylan Fowler (Fflach), Taarab music from Zanzibar (Globestyle), Music from Spanish poet, Federico Garcia Lorca performed by Cafe de Chinitas (Shamrock Records), and Carmen Linares (Auvidis).
During the second hour we had Brazilian music from local group Brasamaba, and guest Tom Klein with Irish bagpipe music by Patrick D’Arcy and Jimmy O’Brien-Moran.
