Today we began with cremation music from Thailand (Playasound), followed by Touareg musicians Tartit from Algeria (Fonti Musicali), and then music from Malian master of the Kora, Toumani Diabate (Hannibal), and then music from Iranian Mamak Khadem, followed by music from Herat, Afghanistan (Unesco), and then live music from North Indian Singers Sajan and Rajan Mishra, followed by music from Sweden’s Vasen (Northside), and then music from the Gbaya Pygmies of Central Africa (Gallo).
During the second hour we had live guests, the Spaghetti Western String Co. The show was closed out with music from Epirus, Greece by the Halkias Family Orchestra.
Special guest Dick Himes and I paid tribute to the late Don Helms, who is most known for being steel player for Hank Williams. He passed away August 11th at 81. Included were stories, reflections on his personal professional life and many recordings in which he is backing the likes of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Ray Price many others.
