8/12 in a nutshell…
An old Dave Barker 45, Funkey Reggae, made its RSST debut, finding itself in the company of the likes of The Khandars (The Maytals?), Owen Gray, (Prince) Buster’s All Stars, Beatle-happy Ringo Ska and a new one from Madison-ite Tony Brown, also making hisRSST debut. Sherwood kicks off his Planet this week with a Dot surf rarity leading to a set of Dave Pike (The Dave Pike Set! Honest!), psych/lounge by The Astros, the West Side Symphony Steel Orchestra doing Byron Lee (acing the man himself on his own Jamaica Ska, and someone we’ve taken to calling Countess Ringula. (Guess who?…!) In the 4:am hour, jump up to the sounds of Jump Up! and get effervescent with Fizzy! (Who??) Then hang around for the mellow, jazzy TSPO bassist Tsuyoshi Kawakami crew skanking on an old Bacharach favorite. Ssssmmmoooooooooothh, baby!
This week on Show #7 we had The Vibro Champs burning up the airways. Their energy blew a fuse in the board twice. DISCLAIMER: We billed this as the last performance of the Vibro Champs in the Twin City Area for a year but they ended up getting two more gigs before Dave disappeared, so sue us.
True to our geographically expanded format, we welcome to the studio local Irish musician Peter Tritz and Irish Fair board member Michael Gibbons bringing samples from this years musical lineup and information on both the local Irish American community and the 2010 Irish Fair of MN, August 13-15 on Harriet Island, St Paul. For more information, simply google Irish Fair of MN and check out the website. We finish up with lots of halling tunes to keep the beat going on.
