New releases highlighted this week (noted by an asterisk * in the playlist) include Lila Downs’ Shake Away, Heiruspecs’ self-titled CD and the Soundtrack to the movie Cadillac Records featuring performances by singers turned actors Mos Def Beyonce and actor turned singer, Jeffrey Wright. The vinyl feature was the Temptations’ Wings of Love. Also, a musical goodbye to former major league baseball pitcher Dock Ellis who died a few weeks ago. Chuck Brodsky’s Dock Ellis’ No-No is a fun song. I recommend reading Donald Hall’s book, Dock Ellis in the Country of Baseball to get a unique viewpoint on an interesting athlete and social observer of his times 1960’s thru 80’s.
