8/4/11 in a nutshell…

GotchaSKAravaned? Not, exactly. The oft-ska-covered Ellington/Tizol goodie is something we thought we had at least one of this week, but WE COULDN’T FIND IT! So instead, we gave you a different Ellington SKAver (Sophisticated Lady a la Ska-J as part of a salute to Italy’s ska scene), as well as somebody else’s Skaravan (Skaravan Petrol, itself a version of an Italian hit sent skankin’ in high style by Giuliano Palma with Casino Royale, his pre-Bluebeaters band). We’ll have back-to-back Ellington Skaravans for the 8/11/11 show! Elsewhere in the 8/4, Euro ska from outside Italy also turned out to fill up hour 3, with a stray Japanese track (by The Determinations) thrown in for good measure. Sherwood schwung to Schory, Shiina and Senor Coconut, and the Ooh (Opening Oldies Hour) dipped into the 30-year-old early ’80s for some Blue Riddim, some Elvis Costello and some Clive Langer the Boxes, adding to our usual ’60s ska mix. Time to pour this pitcher… who wants some? :^)
