We speak with Marina Budhos about her new young adult novel Watched, which follows a Muslim teenager in the post-9/11 surveillance world. She is the author of award-winning fiction and non-fiction, including the novels Tell Us We’re Home and Ask Me No Questions. Her nonfiction includes Remix: Conversations with Immigrant Teenagers and Sugar Changed the World.

Writers Read Open Mic — hosted by busy Mother-of-3 + UofM employee + productive writer Janaya Martin — takes place every third Thursday of the month at The Coffee Shop in northeast Minneapolis.  Janaya's reading series was boosted by the support her fellow writer and friend, Loft Literary Center Program Manager Sherrie Fernandez, provided from Day 1.  Such a cool pair of writers and self-identified communitarians.
