5/12 in a nutshell…
Working backwards from the 3rd hour like we did last week, we just had to send in Ringo the TSPO after Prince The Kid from Phoenix City Buster (this week’s GotchaSKAvered entry)_ that match-up was too good to pass up! Ska from the European mainland (including a French Lollipop) made up the 4(+1)@4, Sherwood kicked off his middle-hour orbit with a brand-spankin’ new Tokyo Jihen BIG BAND track(!) scored by anime (and occasional Godzilla) soundtrack guy Takayuki Hattori, and the opening oldie hour included a couple of 2-Tone flavored tracks featuring guys from Mott The Hoople and Hawkwind, in additionn to usual suspects like Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, Ernest Ranglin, etc. Oh, and Mango Jones has yer coffee.

Martin Devaney and Jake Hyer stopped by the studio today. They performed some song live in-studio, plus we played a few tracks from Martin’s newest release “West End”. Thanks to the guys for coming in, they sounded great.

New releases today included music by Robbie Robertson, Ray Bonneville, Steve Earle, and Martin Devaney.

Tonight was the debut of the new album from the Professor (Harrison Stafford) entitled “Madness”. The Groundation frontman came up with the “Madness” project while in Jamaica…after taking a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. A fantastic album which includes Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, U-Roy, Obeah Denton, Flabba Holt, and others… Also new tonight were two new releases coming from DJ Perch: a new Deep Root single featuring Abassi All Stars and Vibronics, plus a Universal Egg single from an upcoming album by Fire In the Hole. And because the local weather has drastically warmed up in the last couple of days, a Dub Club Tiki Lounge set seemed the order of the day. This was, among other things, a perfect excuse for DJ Baby Swiss to indulge his Shiina Ringo obsession with a brand-new Tokyo Jihen big-band track(!) Yes, you read that right, and the release date is this show’s airdate, 5/11! The Specials, Caro Emerald, The Pepper Pots, Martin Denny, Al Kealoha Perry (unrelated to Lee) and Full Moon Scientist are among the other artists who figured into the proceedings, and Mutant Frogs brought up the rear.
