We celebrate KFAI’s spring pledge drive with author Matthew Pearl, who joins us to talk about his new book, The Technologists. He is the author of the novels The Dante Club, The Poe Shadow, and The Last Dickens. His books have been New York Times bestsellers and international bestsellers translated into more than 30 languages.

In the second half of the show, we discuss the popularity of such post-apocalyptic works as The Hunger Games and The Road, and venture opinions as to why they’re so successful right now.

KFAI The MN Sound host Jonathan Kennedy joined me on this special pledge drive show. We spun favorite local bands and shared SXSW 2012 discoveries! And, I premiered new Blood’n‘Stuff!

It’s a spring pledge drive edition of the Pop Shop, and it’s also 1966—arguably the best year in music. From Dylan’s “Blonde on Blonde,” to The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds,” 1966 was a phenomenal year in music. Tonight we spin cuts by Love, the Turtles, the Yardbirds and the Creation. Plus DJ Izzy’s “Super Weirdo” set featuring 13th Floor Elevators, Capt Beefheart, the Mothers of Invention and “word jazz” by Ken Nordeen.

If you like the Pop Shop and grassroots, community radio, show your support for KFAI and make a donation. Call 612-375-9030 or go to kfai.org. Thanks!
