Tonight the Echo Chamber once again embarked on a “Magic Dub Carpet Ride”: a musical journey to the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, and the Indian subcontinent (with a couple of side-trips as well). So we loaded up our hookah and let the winds carry us on a dubwise ride from Cairo to Tehran…from Rajasthan to Jerusalem…from New Delhi to Marrakesh. Among the artists that joined us on this dubwise carpet ride were: The Natacha Atlas & Marc Eagleton Project, Sub Dub, The Bombay Dub Orchestra, Hamza el Din, Jai Uttal (ft. Don Cherry), Thomas Blondet, Fedayi Pacha, Sussan Deyhim, Midival Pundits, The Toure-Raichel Collective (from the new “The Paris Session” on Cumbancha), Dub Colossus, Cheb i Sabbah, Up Bustle & Out, Once 11, Tipsy, The Orb & Lee Scratch Perry, Niyaz, Debruit & Alsarah, Simon Shaheen & Qantara, and more. Also in the mix was a 20+ minute excerpt from the excellent Mixcloud “Arabic Spring” mix from maikO.Geisha. Quite a strange, intoxicatiing trip indeed!

We speak with David Mitchell about his new book The Bone Clocks. He is also the author of number9dream and Cloud Atlas, which were both shortlisted for the Booker Prize. His other novels include Ghostwritten, Black Swan Green and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet.
