The Echo Chamber’s annual Tuff Gong Tubby Tribute honoring Robert Nesta Marley (born 2/6/1945) and Osbourne Ruddock (died 2/6/1989). One man a legend the world round. The other, a legend in the reggae world, and a permanent influence upon recording studio techniques and technology.
Dan Daddy Squeeze Newton was my guest DJ this morning. In the big bag of great music he brought along was his new release Hi Top Sneakers. He’s having a CD release party on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown. Doors open at 7:30 for the 8:00 show.
The Rockin’ Pinecones, one of Dan’s groups will be our guests at the 5th Annual Jackson’s Juke Joint Mardi Gras Party. The band reunited back in 2003 for our 1st Mardi Gras Party, which at that time was tied into the weekly series at the Viking Bar.
Today we began with dutar music from the Uyghers of China (Chinese Label), then we had guest with live music, Aida Shahghasemi on daf and vocals, and Amirhossein Kiani on Tar and vocals. The hour was finished off with music by Iraqi, Amir el Safir (Safaafir).
