A new year is upon us and that means one thing: making promises you know you won’t keep. Are you going to learn a language, pick up a new hobby or lose those holiday pounds? Are you going to keep at it until you get your desired results, or forget about it by lunch? Then this is the show for you.
This first 2008 edition of the show we heard a few of the 2007 records that music writers put on their tops lists, such as The Pines, Iron and Wine, Cloud Cult and Wilco; we also heard Dana Leong, an artist out of New York who is definitely one to watch for music heads in ’08.
During the first hour we listened to a concert from local group, Orange Mighty Trio, who play a mix of folk chamber jazz. The concert was recorded at Hosmer Public Library back in August 2007. In the second hour we listened to music from Kalman Balogh and his Gypsy Band (Traditional Crossroads), music from the Inuit of Canada (Unesco), music from Zanzibar (Buda Musique), music from Ethiopia by Yilma Woldemedehen, Gabriel Yacoub from France (Demo), Music of the Maya (K’ojom), Altan (Narada), Argentine Chamame accordionist Chango Spasiuk (long distance), Flamenco music fromSon de la Frontera (World Village), and music of Mauritania by Ooleya Mint Amartichitt (Long Distance).
