KFAI Presents Black History Month Specials

9am: Jazz Profiles: Billie Holiday
Few song-stylists of any era are as immediately distinctive and arresting as Lady Day. Her rhythmic instinct for melodies brought vocals to the forefront of jazz expression. This one-hour special tells Holiday’s story through music and interviews.

10am: Dakota Dave Hull Black History Month Special
KFAI DJ Dakota Dave Hull brings together a collection of early blues and jazz recordings, including the first ever interracial recordings made in America. Hull will explore, through music, how American music as we know it grew out of musicians, black and white, influencing each other.

Electronic Music – Bloop – Bleep

2/26/2008 Pam Without Boundaries

We heard new music this morning from local sax man Irv Williams (celebrating his new album at the Artists’ Quarter this Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, 9pm each night). Also something new from my beloved funkstress Martha Redbone, and Chico Mann finally made their music available to people outside of Brooklyn! So we heard that, too. And new music from Jim White. Fun morning!
