There was so much new music in stores this week, a lot of the show was spent with just the day’s new records: Conor Oberst, Carrie Rodriguez, Sidestepper…which one lucky listener got mailed out to him! So we didn’t get to hear the Humble Pie inspired by the Frampton special, but in honor of the new music influenced by the classics, it’s all all right, right?

Today during the first hour we listened to a number of tunes from Tibet (Folkways, Playasound, Le Chante du Monde, Arc), we also heard a number of tunes from Georgia (Buda, Planett), and Irish pipe music from Michael Cooney (Gortnahoe Productions).

During the second hour we had live in studio guests, Roma di Luna.

Special nod to the CD Mozart Meets Cuba from Klazz Brothers and Cuba Percussion. The song is Bomba de la Noche (label: BMG Germany – about 40 min into hour 1). It’s the second cd from these guys and they are a coming together of classical German musicians and professional Cuban percussionists. They do cool versions of Mozart compositions.

Also go about 23 min into hour 2 and hear the Isley Brothers do their version of Summer Breeze. When spinning this one live I looked out of the KFAI on air studio windows (3 floors up in the Bailey Bldg) and saw the green tree tops moving in the wind. It was nature’s music video.

Gotta also give a shout out to early Van Morrison (1 hour 50 min into hour 2) singing lead on the band Them’s cover of the John Lee Hooker song Don’t look back. Good music to contemplate the passing days of Summer.
