Roots

Our guest co-host today was Rene Baca, and he brought in some fine music and stories to share. This also concludes the Co-Host For A Day series on Good and Country for now. We may choose to bring back this feature again sometime. Many thanks to all who came forward and contributed their talents, music and stories during this community outreach effort in which listeners were co-hosts of the show. Much was learned from you indeed, and this has been a very entertaining, educational and enriching experience for me too.

Got things kicking tonight with the cumbia-dub-electronica-club sounds of Piper Street Sound and their very cool “Cumbia de la Piedmont” release on Boom One, and did a cumbia-based set a bit later in the program. Also new tonight: Addis Pablo (son of Augustus Pablo) and the Suns of Dub productions; the new album “Free Your Soul” by the Banyans; plus new tracks from OnlyJoe, Freddie McGregor, Moshi Kamachi , Ramon Judah & Conscious Sound (with RSD), Ammoye, Wise Rockers, Justin DeHart, Akasha, DU3normal, Blaminack/Manwel T, Yabass Yabba Radics, and ZionNoiz. The modern cumbia set included fresh music from Piper St. Sound, Rafael Aragon, Kuto Selektah Quilla, and Ondatropica. More great dubwise & otherwise tracks on the eve of Valentine’s Day from Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (ft. Megumi Mashiro), SOJA, Bob Marley/Dubmatix, Prince Fatty, The Specials, John Holt, Mutant Frogs, The Dreamlets, Dry and Heavy, and more…
