This is important if you actually listen to this show: Radio Rumpus Room is being preempted this week, Jan. 9, for somebody’s live broadcast, BUTONLYTHEFIRSTHALFHOUR’S WORTH. We are going to utilized the last half of this abbreviated timeslot to do a 30 minute tribute to one of the greatest songs of all time: Stan Jones’ Ghost Riders In The Sky. Lotsa wildly different versions of this one; we guarantee this’ll hold your interest!
Update on our still-AWOL 128 kbps MP3 archives: We remain one of a handful of KFAI shows that are not being archived in this higher-quality format. The requsted fix requires the station engineer (currently on a long holiday hiatus) and we’ve been told we’re on the list. Say your prayers — it couldn’t hurt!

Happy New Year! We have taken over the airwaves for 3 and 1/2 hours or rockin’ fun. We started by taking over International Jazz Conspiracy and continued with In Your Ear. Joining me in the studio are Dave Babb of the Front Porch Swinging Liquor Pigs, Liz Olds, Jackson Buck, The Bickermores and Kyra. Don’t forget to listen to International Jazz Conspiracy on Wednesday night New Years Eve to hear the first part of the show .
I found 55 records in 2008 that I thought were worth noting. 55 records—not just one or two songs, but the whole record was worthwhile. I got to 30 of them on this show, including some requests like Blitzen Trapper (thanks, Dan Haugen!). Then I tuned in to Dart Gun Radio later that night, and heard Abbi proclaim there weren’t many records that came out in ’08 that were worth anything, but she was going to dig up a couple. I had to smile. Check out the playlist and see if the ones you thought mattered in ’08 turned up this Tuesday morning.
