Dan Daddy Squeeze Newton was my guest DJ this morning. In the big bag of great music he brought along was his new release Hi Top Sneakers. He’s having a CD release party on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Varsity Theater in Dinkytown. Doors open at 7:30 for the 8:00 show.
The Rockin’ Pinecones, one of Dan’s groups will be our guests at the 5th Annual Jackson’s Juke Joint Mardi Gras Party. The band reunited back in 2003 for our 1st Mardi Gras Party, which at that time was tied into the weekly series at the Viking Bar.
Where did January go? For this last day edition of the program we anticipate Mardi Gras with some NOLA anthems. We also reveal the true identity of Little Papa Joe (listen to the archive to find out!). Brother Tad unearths yet another version of the Tighten Up, and we wallow in the golden tones of Marvin Junior, lead voice of the Dells, on this his 72nd birthday.
Mostly Carnival this week… Brazilian samba samba-reggae (with a nod to the Orishas, including Yemanja) along with Trinidad and Tobago soca-calypso with a Cuban Haitian sample for good measure… ending with some new flamenco voices to boot.
The play list for the 2nd Annual Dearly Departed Show. A show dedicated to some of those great and not so great persons who left us in 2007. Many thanks to Jackson Buck for coming in and adding a little class to the show. Take advantage of our archived programs.
