Jazz

6/14 in a nutshell…

Ooh, it’s a global ’60s Blue Beat ‘n’ Ska Invasion, with upstrokes all the way from South Africa to Germany to the Caribbean, the UK and the US! Meanwhile, in the Voov out around Sherwood’s Planet, Hal Blaine trips out, Shiina Ringo gets crazy in Shibuya, Ken Nordine knows the story (believe me, he knows lots of ‘em), and Sauter & Finegan introduce us to a chanting weed! In the 4@4, Mutant Frogs go to Greenhenge (wherever that is), GotchaSKAvered airs the first of 2 Jazz Jamaica versions of Confucious (the next being the expanded big band version), and Tokyo Ska trombone terror Masahiko Kitahara introduces us to a Hungry Beast (from Walkin’TSPO’s latest). Giuliano Palma offers up a timely, potent lament on the State Of The Nation after a showing of “Rocky” down at the Lions Club. Oops… Gotta Fly Now!

Bruce Jackson came back AGAIN.  You just can't keep this guy down…this time he brought with him three other musicians making up the Jackson LeBeau Project and they entertained us with many different genres of music.  Bruce was also on our 88th show with The Moondogs 88 and his first appearance was with Wayne McFarland and Jahz.

Latin beginnings with highlight of upcoming show Fri. 6/15 at the Dakota with Ceu’ & Curumin. Another feature of Fela in the second hour – in celebration of the Broadway visit of “FELA !” at the Ordway this week !
