The Echo Chamber is 3 hours of the best in dub, reggae, downbeat club, and percussion heavy world music. Another program with tons of new music… On the list of new things: Alambic Conspiracy, AfreekanXpress, RMCdub, Groundation, Public Property, Toy, Dubline, HiGhMas,and Della Grant (with the Twinkle Brothers). Also tonight: a Springline Records set that included Hassle, Creation Rockers, and Tilly Roots (aka Telford Nelson). Finally, great stuff from the vaults from King Tubby, Yabby You, I-Roy, and Derrick Morgan.
Anne Manx and the Empress Blair Project, from the Radio Repertory Company of America. Anne Manx has to keep the Empress alive for two months until she can assume rule of her planet. But nothing is ever that easy.
Inspired by the State Fair appearance of the hugely talented Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, some sounds of New Orleans:
Rebirth Brass Band: Tornado Special (Take It to the Street; Rounder)
Mahogany Brass Band: St. James Infirmary (Best of the Brass Bands; Sound of New Orleans)
Original Pinstripe Brass Band: Last Chance to Dance (Your Last Chance to Dance; Orleans)
Tonight Dr. StrangeDub and DJ Baby Swiss parked themselves at the Dub Club Tiki Bar for the annual Echo Beach end of summer special. It was very different kind of Echo Chamber, as we ventured into some twangy, instrumental surf rock, cool old school RB, a variety of lounge sounds, world sounds, swanky tropical jazz, weird electronic music, and movie soundtracks. But don’t think for a minute that the dub doctors completely forgot our ska, dub and reggae foundation. Some deep Nyabinghi meditation followed the martinis and kali…as the waves came crashing down on the sands of Echo Beach.
