Eclectic

New music from Zimbabwe from the percussionist with Oliver Mtukudzi, Strovers opens the show followed by tunes from the late Lucky Dube and a preview of the Buena Vista Social Club who return to MN. after many years. Later on the program features some highlights of tonite’s Global Roots festival Cedar Cultural Ctr. from Boston, MA --- the Debo Band alongside the re-view of last night's closing act, from the Ukraine - Dahka Brakha. Also a preview of the sold-out show Thursday nite The Cedar, BIlly Bragg.

Flying solo this week due to the good Dr.‘s bad cold (in commemoration of which d.j. babyswiss spun his Mutant Frogs track “Big Bad Rhino” twice back-to-back, the first time as a bumper), The Cheese broadcast from orbit around Titan this week, and those tuned in got to hear a cut from Ott’s debut album Blumenkraft, the first time we’ve spun anything by him that wasn’t from Hallucinogen In Dub. We really “Ott-a” dig into this guy’s back-catalogue; it’s exactly the kinda stuff this show’s made of! By the way, we just missed yet another of his TC appearances… Swiss has gOTTa keep an eye peeled (Ewww, gross!) for future Ott gigs. Celestial bodies The Sun and Io got to be back-announce bumpers… we’re gonna have to do more of that! Lotsa rootical “showcase discomix” business figured into the playlist this week, as did a bunch of impossibly rare 45 dubs and toasts Swiss found on YouTube some years back, many by various collections of “All Stars” named after their record labels. And for those puzzling over the name “Earth Wind & Fire” listed as the track rather than the artist, …it’s not a mistake, it’s Paul Blackman’s 12” on the UK’s Daddy Kool label, itself also the home of Chap. 3 of Prince Far-I’s “Cry Tuff Dub Encounter” series. Look for the good Doctor to join in the fun next week, and in the meantime… wish him well.

Neil Weir, musician with Chambermaids, Sativa Flats and Pony Trash, and recording engineer/owner of Old Blackberry Way studio joined SWC, celebrating the new Chambermaids “Whatever Happened Tomorrow” record releasing this week. He spun from this, and various bands he’s mixed, sharing yet-to-be released recordings as well as favorites.

Dixon and Sparks: Excuse Me While I Disappear – a new detective series from ZBS. Dixon and Sparks run the Existential Detective Agency. Dixon can see things that others can’t. And we’ll have a short silly subject from Big Fun Radio Funtime, too.

Next week Your Sonic Serveant Luke Andrews returns…This week the Return of DJ Musically Rich!
