Tonight Dr. StrangeDub and DJ Baby Swiss parked themselves at the Dub Club Tiki Bar for the annual Echo Beach end of summer special. It was very different kind of Echo Chamber, as we ventured into some twangy, instrumental surf rock, cool old school RB, a variety of lounge sounds, world sounds, swanky tropical jazz, weird electronic music, and movie soundtracks. But don’t think for a minute that the dub doctors completely forgot our ska, dub and reggae foundation. Some deep Nyabinghi meditation followed the martinis and kali…as the waves came crashing down on the sands of Echo Beach.
I really like The Cave Singers. Their new record, Welcome Joy, is lovely. If you like Blitzen Trapper or Fleet Foxes, you will want to check out The Cave Singers. We also heard new Matisyahu, Liam Finn, and Cliff Eberhardt this morning.
A stormy Tuesday morning started with the trumpet call of Hugh Masekela remixed on the second volume of the Verve//Remixed series, and ended with the contemplative clarinet of Dr.Michael White from his latest release, Blue Crescent. In between, we heard rock (like All Girl Summer Fun Band), laid back lounge-y music (The Postmarks), and even ska to get us up and out into the rain (The Selecter was On My Radio). We flow smoothly from one genre to another, featuring the best new music, on PWB.
