The first show of 2009…and we had plenty of new stuff for the new year. The Improvisators meet Iration Steppas on the new Inna Steppa Dub (on Hammerbass); Taurus Alphonso’s new Survivor album; Avatar’s Summa Iru album; and the new I Wanna Love You from Mind’s Eye Dub topped the list of new music.
Well, here it is: a new year. We kicked off the 8:00 hour with Quantic’s version of Feelin’ Good with Alice Russell in the lead, singing to us, it’s a new dawn, of a new day, of a new life… Is it for you? Are you feelin’ good? It’s all right, either way. I resolve to listen to more music, and keep the best stuff coming on Tuesday mornings. And to listen to you if I’m not doing my job.

Seeing another year out in rub-a-dub stylee… From Ghetto Priest’s Auld Lang Syne/Slave’s Lament versions (from the rare ON-U Sound single), to the brand new Inna Steppa Dub from Improvisators meet Iration Steppas, to the modern-meets-ancient sounds of Jah Wobble’s new Chinese Dub album (on 30Hertz), it was quite an irie party.
I found 55 records in 2008 that I thought were worth noting. 55 records—not just one or two songs, but the whole record was worthwhile. I got to 30 of them on this show, including some requests like Blitzen Trapper (thanks, Dan Haugen!). Then I tuned in to Dart Gun Radio later that night, and heard Abbi proclaim there weren’t many records that came out in ’08 that were worth anything, but she was going to dig up a couple. I had to smile. Check out the playlist and see if the ones you thought mattered in ’08 turned up this Tuesday morning.
