“El Bombazo de Maria Isa” With some Eddie Palmieri gracing the background we roll out the jams for this episode of Radio Pocho. The talented Mari Isa joins us for the first time on the show, but after this interview it’s clear it won’t be the last time. She joins us to talk about the evolution of her career grounded by familia, cultura, and musica.
Check out some of her favorite cuts by Julio Voltio, La India and Eddie Palmieri. DJ Miguel Vargas and DJ Ren hit back with some Mexican cumbia, Venezuelan salsa and Afro Peruvian electronica.
We also feature some great Minneapolis funk by Jesse Johnson with additional cameos by Klymaxx, LL Cool J, Steve Jordan, and much much more.
Tonight the Echo Chamber presented the annual “Word Beat I Powa” dub poetry, beat poetry, and spoken word special to celebrate National Poetry Month. Of course, it was dub poetry that set the foundation of the show, featuring poets Oku Onoura, Mutabaruka, Jean Binta Breeze, Jazzmin Tutum, Malachi Smith, Glenville Bryan, Lady Dawn, and of course, the incomparable Linton Kwesi Johnson.
“Palabristas: Word Slingers” On this episode of RP we’re visited by Chican@/Latin@ spoken word collective Palabristas. A haiku battle breaks out throughout the show and a guest DJ joins the Pocho crew to spin some tunes…Sir Mex-A-Lot.
We have spoken word performances by Rodrigo Sanchez Chavarria, Larry Lucio and Emmanuelle Ortiz as well as an interview by New York based poet Brandon Lacy Campos. Keep track of this great collective at Palabrista.org
And as always we have the tunes that make spring bloom.
Another night filled with a bunch of new dub… Starting off with the new Bandulu Dub remix album “Volcanic Eruptions” (on Dan Dada Records), Sardinia Bass Legalize’s new “Timeline” EP (aquietbump), and the very cool “Marijuana Dreams” from Dubblestandart (Echo Beach).
