Tonight Dr. StrangeDub and DJ Baby Swiss parked themselves at the Dub Club Tiki Bar for the annual Echo Beach end of summer special. It was very different kind of Echo Chamber, as we ventured into some twangy, instrumental surf rock, cool old school RB, a variety of lounge sounds, world sounds, swanky jazz, weird electronic music, and movie soundtracks. Included in the middle of the show was a special mix straight from the TurnTableTerrorist at Echo Beach on WLUW-FM, Chicago.
Radio Antilles Playlist 8/22/08: Opening track of the show One Day from Australian band Blue King Brown’s got a hard kick to it. New stuff from Kasai Allstars / Kafuulu Balu / ongotraonics 3 / from Crammed (Belgium label) about 30 min into hour 1. The Slackers also got a new batch out with Everyday is Sunday / Self Medication /Indication record label 4 songs into the ska set at 15 min into hour 2. Also check out the sign off song – Sharon Jones and The Dap-kings /How Long Do I have to Wait For you ? / Sharon Jones and The Dap-kings / Daptone. Caught them live on Thur 8/21/08 at the MN State Fair and they played this tune. Pulled a guy out of the crowd to dance with Sharon on stage. Stood on a picnic table groovin and it was fun. 55 min into hour 2.
DJ Baby Swiss goes solo once again in the Echo Chamber. And, despite the fact that he arrived empty-handed (and had to rely on KFAI’s CD library), he cooked up a real fun ecelectic mix. Helping out the situation was the hand-delivered new King Tubby vs. The Assessor disc (Big Up Jeremy!). Loads of funn indeed.
New music this morning from Indigenous, Juliana Hatfield and Sebastien Tellier. Don’t be surprised if this is the breakthrough album for Indigenous, where all the Big Head Todd fans who have not yet grooved on them finally do. Juliana still makes the music Liz Phair wishes she still did (and maybe will again!), and Sebastien Tellier is still fabulously moody. It was a good new music morning.
