Another week filled with new dubs…alongside classic dub and roots. New releases from Citizen Sound, Richie Phoe, Vuelo meets Tony Dubshot, and KFAI’s own e.g. bailey (with his excellent “American Afrikan” album scheduled for release in April). Also…got a start on celebrating Bob Marley’s 65th birthday, and paid respects to King Tubby.
Doug The Thug sez: Once again I hijacked Across The Board for the evening playing mostly mashups of disparate classic hits created by people who have waaaay too much time on their hands. I also threw in some of my own mashups. Included in the mix were a bunch of 12” vinyl records found by a dumpster in Uptown. They were priceless gems of DJ mixes from the late 80s and early 90s. MADONNAHEAVEN as well as Depeche Mode, Annie Lennox, YAZ, Bjork, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Mary J Blige. A veritable treasure trove. Half of them had totally blank labels so each one was a surprise. Also on this show: THEEXCLUSIVESNEAKPREVIEWWORLDPREMIERE OF LAUNDROMATVACATION’S NEWESTALBUM.
A track entitled: “Aqua Naught”.
I even SCOOPED Radio Rumpus Room!
From brand new releases, to the re-release of a classic, another program full of great dub and roots. New releases from: Vibronics; Citizen Sound; Trevor “The Technician” McKenzie (with Mika on vocals) and more…including Rihanna’s cover of “Redemption Song” for Haiti benefit. The classic re-release tonight: “Harder Shade of Black” (on Pressure Sounds).
